Yes, this is the season. The leaves on the trees are turning to their autumn colour and books are being launched. I love this time of year.

Andi & Theo's Excellent Barcelona Adventure +, Part 4

Sep 24th, 2010 22:14

Monday was our last day and night in Barcelona and we needed a place to stay. We collected our suitcases from the hotel and wandered to the tourist office for help. They couldn't. So back to a charming restaurant for tapas and wifi and we settled on a small hotel near the airport. It was in a little town called Castelldefels. The desk attendant was a cheerful man who made us very welcome. After settling in, we found a restaurant for dinner, returned, packed and fell into bed.

Andi & Theo's Excellent Barcelona Adventure +, Part 3

Sep 24th, 2010 22:12

We slept remarkably well on the train. There were supposed to be four people in our car, but when morning arrived, we discovered only one other person and her cello (in the lower berth).

Andi & Theo's Excellent Barcelona Adventure +, Part 2

Sep 24th, 2010 22:08

We hatched our plan on the train heading north. Why don't we take the night train and go to Granada to visit the Alhambra? Since hotels were at a premium in Barcelona, we'd be on a moving hotel and see something that I've wanted to see since my very first IBBY Congress in 1994. Both of us were chuffed about this idea and couldn't wait to set it in motion.

Andi & Theo's Excellent Barcelona Adventure +, Part 1

Sep 24th, 2010 22:06

My travelogue has been as dodgy as the trip. It is all dependent on wifi access and time, as you might guess. All I can say is, thank goodness Andi brought her computer and I-phone. Both have been life-savers.

For the first three days, Andi and I shared a lovely apartment in Barcelona with Josiane and Edward, as I mentioned. The apartment was nicely situated near the Sacrada Familia, the still unfinished obre grande of Gaudi. The cathedral is magnificent. The eye moves from one unexpected form to another. We didn't go inside, but...

IBBY Congress overview

Sep 22nd, 2010 23:34

And now an overview of the 4-day Congress:

The theme of the Congress was “The Strength of Minorities” , a particularly meaningful subject in Spain where there are three distinct “minorities” -- Galicia, Catalan, and the Basque region. Over the four days we learned bits and pieces about the struggle to retain regional language (not dialects of Spanish, but separate languages).

The meetings were held at the Palacio del Congresos e Exposicions (Congress Centre). The plenaries were in the main auditorium. Simultaneous trans...

IBBY Congress, highlights

Impressions of the 32nd IBBY Congress in Santiago de Compostela, September 8-12, 2010

Introduction

I've just returned from Spain and I'm struggling with how best to write about the IBBY Congress. It was a wonderful Congress with so many inspiring moments. I heard about the amazing work of people from all over the world: people working with children and people creating programs and materials for children; people overcoming seemingly in...

Congress, Day 1, September 9, 2010

Sep 9th, 2010 20:55

Today was the first full day of the IBBY Congress. Unfortunately, I had insomnia last night and had to miss one of the workshops because I couldn´t keep my eyes open. Felt better after my siesta.
